MOSELLE – SOUTH AFRICA AND BACK
the building in which the Lex is located has been property of the Herres family in Leiwen for a long time. Before us, the “Sektstuuf St. Laurentius” used to be here and now our restaurant has been in this historical building since March 2020 and since July 2020 our Hotel Lex as well. Just like many of our guests, we instantly fell in love with these walls rooted in tradition
and the great view over the river Moselle.
There are some interesting details worth knowing about the head chef and owner Peter Lex: Since 2009, after he finished his training at “Rüssels Landhaus St. Urban”, his career has been remarkable. His career path has led him to numerous gourmet and star-rated restaurants.
Notable are: Merkles Rebstock in Endingen at the Kaiserstuhl, Kerschauer Hof, Restaurant Freundstück in Deidesheim, Schosshotel Lerbach in Bergisch Gladbach, Restaurant Seven Seas in Süllberg in Hamburg, Restaurant Stüffel in Hamburg, Restaurant Cá d´Oro in St. Moritz (Switzerland), Steinheuers Gorumetrestaurant and Kempinksi Hotel St. Moritz (Switzerland)
During that time, he worked in many different areas as Chef de Partie Patisserie, Demi-Chef de Partie, Chef de Partie Entremétier, Junior Sous Chef and Sous Chef. In 2014, Peter won the world championship title for Germany at the “Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs 2014” in South Africa.
Now, he is returning to his roots at the Lex in Leiwen at the Moselle, together with his fiancee Katja, who comes from the same work field, to achieve his dream of having his own restaurant where guests and staff always feel welcome.
